How To Wear Red And Look Great
May 15th, 2012Both men and women love red but when it comes to wearing it people feel a little scary because not everyone can really pull this color off. Women with light blonde hair and pale blue, gray or green eyes should stick with pale reds with a blue undertone. Any orangey shades should be avoided though.
Redhead women with eyes of any color and golden skin tone should opt for orangey reds and stay away from blue-based reds. Ladies with dark brown or black hair, dark eyes and olive or dark complexion will look terrific wearing dark and strong reds with a blue undertone. No orangey tones will work though.
Red and white as well as red and black look gorgeous but by wearing it you will not surprise anybody as these combinations are the most common. However, you can mix all the three and look chic. Try making bolder combinations like red and blue, red and beige, experiment with green shadows.
To create interesting looks play with different red tones. Combine tomato red with hot fuchsia, pale red with deep violet, coral with light rosy, etc.

How to Wear Trendy Maxi Skirt
May 4th, 2012A maxi skirt is one of the hottest trends of this season. Maxi skirts have already become a must-have in wardrobes of all women who value beauty, style and practicality. Maxi skirts have been trendy many times throughout the fashion history but each time they returned with a twist bringing something fresh and unexpected to fashionistas. Maxi skirt is a rather versatile item. It is great for every shape and when chosen right it can conceal woman’s problem areas and emphasize her assets.
Tall ladies, who want to look shorter, should choose a maxi skirt in two colors separated with a horizontal line. Petite women should team floor-length skirts with tight-fitting tops with V-necklines and heels to elongate their silhouettes. Slim girls can try the trendiest design of a maxi skirt – pleated maxi. But plump women should avoid those. Plump girls should also be careful with clinging maxi skirts made of strong fabrics as these will make you look bigger and accentuate areas you would wish to hide.
For ladies with big breasts and/or broad shoulders I advise to try maxi skirts with high splits to balance figures. Narrow and straight-line skirts can be combined both with clinging and loose tops while full maxi skirts look their best with close-fitting tops. For en edgier look young girls tend to co-ordinate maxi skirts with biker boots and fur jackets.
Why female designers struggle to get noticed in competitive industry
May 2nd, 2012
Now Style.com has questioned whether it is easier for men to survive in the fashion world than women.
Sophie Buhai, of the label Vena Cava told the site that fashion industry success relies on the favoritism of magazine editors. She said: ‘We see a lot of women who don’t get as much attention as the male designers who are adored by editors.’
Its top honours have only gone to two female recipients, Doo-Ri Chung and Sophie Theallet, in its eight-year history.
And while it is no secret that magazines wield a significant amount of power within the New York fashion industry, are women being intentionally excluded? It could come down to how some women prioritise their family life over their career, according to Norma Kamali.
The designer of the iconic red swimsuit Farrah Fawcett wore in the 1976 Charlie’s Angel promotional poster, said: ‘There was a point in my life, I had to stop and think, do I want to have children or do I want to do this?’
But in March of this year, an eight-month-pregnant Ms Philo proved that a female designer is able to have the best of both worlds.
There is no denying that designers such as Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Donna Karen, Carolina Herrera, The Row’s Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy and Celine’s Phoebe Philo have all built solid names for themselves.

How to Lose 5 Pounds in Five Days
April 19th, 2012Sure, a months-long healthy diet is the real key to lasting weight loss. But you can lose weight quickly and safely. Most of us don’t think it’s possible to look 5 pounds thinner that fast. But here’s a shocker: It’s do-able. And you don’t need to go on some long-term, healthy foods diet to lose weight that quickly. Our favorite experts say that depending on your body type, it’s realistic to drop 5 pounds in five days — or at least lose enough water weight, or trim enough inches, to make it look like you have, which is all that really matters.
Cut the added sodium and you’ll lose water weight and bloat. To tackle the excess white stuff, consume “no more than 500 mg of added sodium per day — like salt from processed or prepared foods,” says Beth Reardon, director of integrative nutrition at Duke Integrative Medicine. She says a lot of seemingly “healthy” foods (think processed cereals, cottage cheese, and even frozen vegetable mixes!) are high in salt. The good news? These can easily be replaced with oatmeal, Greek yogurt, and fresh DIY veggie/grain combos.
While the recommended intake is 25 mg per day for women, Reardon suggests eating 35 to 40 g of both soluble and insoluble fiber to lighten your weight and look like you’ve lost 5 pounds. Both types of fiber are equally important for health, digestion, and preventing conditions like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and constipation. Just know that soluble fibers are found in the plants you eat — they’re the parts that pass through your system undigested, delay the emptying of your stomach, and make you feel full, which helps control the munchies. This type of fiber is found in foods like oats, legumes, barley, apples, pears, and flaxseed. On the other hand, insoluble fibers have a laxative effect and add bulk to your diet; they pass through the GI tract relatively intact, and speed up the passage of food and waste through your gut. This fiber is found mostly in grains and vegetables, including whole wheat, whole grains like barley and brown rice, zucchini, broccoli, carrots, dark leafy vegetables, and grapes. Finally, a cup of hot water with lemon, in the morning or as a nightcap, can also get things moving.
